Abstract

This study conducted in Brazil and Portugal is one of the stages of a macro-international project intended to promote the development, implementation and assessment of anti-bullying interventions for countries in which the official language is Portuguese. School bullying, considered a public health problem, affects the quality of schooling and the psychosocial development of children and adolescents. Therefore, interventions are needed to prevent and decrease the occurrence of bullying in schools. The literature shows that the most effective interventions are those involving the diverse characteristics and causalities of this phenomenon and that sensitize students to its harmful nature. With these assumptions in mind, this study's general objective is to assess the effects of two anti-bullying interventions implemented in Brazil and one implemented in Portugal. The first intervention is multidimensional, simultaneously directed to students, school staff, family and the community. The second is intended to sensitize students not involved with bullying to take a stand against aggression and defend victims. The third is based on the methodology of the Theatre of the Oppressed, which is itself based on Paulo Freire's work and defends dialogue and cooperation in order to problematize, discuss and transform oppressive situations, such as those found in bullying contexts. This study will be conducted with a quasi-experimental design (intervention and control groups). Data will be collected with the application of questionnaires before and after the intervention is implemented and will be statistically analyzed. Interventions are expected to improve peer coexistence at school, and prevent and decrease bullying. (AU)
