Abstract

This research project is part of the effort to understand the work and action of the French philosopher, sociologist and journalist Raymond Aron (1905-1983), and its influence in the French and Brazilian academic fields. The central author of our intellectual preoccupations, Aron was a scholarly, varied and far-reaching work whose themes range from philosophy and sociology to international relations, through the history of thought and ideas, French politics and comparisons, among other interests. Specifically, our purpose in the research project is to investigate Aron's production as a teacher in some of the most prestigious French academic houses, such as the Institut d'études politiques, the École nationale d'administration, the Sorbonne and the Collège of France, that is, to analyze the way in which the author constitutes his academic and teaching-pedagogical practice from the courses he taught during the almost forty years of regular academic activity. The fact that the courses of Sociological Thought (2008 [1967]) and Trilogy about industrial society (1962;1964;1965) originally given by Aron in the Sorbonne, have become, in spite of the original purposes of its author, works adopted as species of introductory textbooks to science courses in France, in Brazil and elsewhere, as most of its academic courses have been published in important collections (also becoming referential works in other fields, as in the case of international relations teaching) leads us to the research problems that will be detailed in this project.
