Abstract

Researcher Dr. Stuart Fraser, has extensive experience in the field of forest pathology, mainly in epidemiological and molecular analysis of pathogens. His participation in our project with Colletotrichum in rubber tree (Fapesp 2017/23927-3) will be fundamental for an in-depth analysis of the molecular data, since several parts of the fungus DNA will be sequenced. Knowing that the fungus Colletotrichum is extremely complex, it is possible that the researcher receives our students in his institution to apply some molecular analysis tool. In addition to the above activities, Dr. Stuart Fraser, working in a worldwide reference institution, can help us to obtain more information on Colletotrichum isolates from other countries that have rubber plantations, helping to increase the information network. We also hope that it contributes to the construction of the scientific articles, since the scientific production of the researcher is representative. The researcher's institution is currently developing work with a new sequencing technology known as MinION. It is a portable device that performs real-time DNA sequencing in the field. It is hoped that with the visit of the researcher and his trip to the field to see the symptoms and the causal agent of the disease we are studying, we can initiate studies of the use of this device in Brazil and thus leave the activities related to analysis of phytopathogens in the field.
