Abstract

This research project aims to develop an ultrasonic system to characterize water-in-oil emulsions. The operating principle of the method is based on measuring the acoustic properties of the emulsion, which are related to concentration of water droplets dispersed in the continuous oil medium. The measurement system will be automated to determine the velocity of propagation and acoustic attenuation using ultrasound cells available at the Ultrasound Laboratory of the School of Engineering at USP. The scattering of acoustic waves will be tested as a means to increase the sensitivity of the acoustic measurements. (AU)
