Abstract

The nonlinear methods and artifical intelligence tools provide a better understanding of the physiological phenomenon of the autonomic nervous system - ANS (sympathetic and parasympathetic branches). This analyis is made from biological signals obtained noinvasively. However, there is disagreement to assign which specific part of the dynamic from analyzed system is, in terms of the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches. In this context, these tools are apropriate and capable to detect the global behaviour in the dynamics of the biological systems. These methods show different sensitivity and performance according the analysis purpose. The main purpose of this work is to correlate the different nolinear methods and artificial intelligence tools and the dynamic analysis of the autonomic nervous system by the use of the biomedical/biological signals. This relationship can provide specific information relating the method of analysis employed and the physiology for discrimination between the branches of the ANS. This study is important to characterize the dynamical systems with very similar dynamic, such as occur in biological signals groups with different classes of the pathologies or under stress situations. It allows the development of an analysis protocol to quantify situations using time series of the individuals with several ANS changes. (AU)
