Abstract

1) we aim to improve the theoretical analysis on the axial symmetry breaking of optical beams propagating through dielectrics, to study the phenomena of light oscillation caused by the simultaneous effect of the Goos-Hänchen displacements and angular deviations, to analyze the interference between different polarizations and the consequent oscillations in the laser power and, finally, to extend the results obtained for the propagation of the light, when the dielectric/air and air/dielectric interfaces can be treated separately to the case in which the light propagates through stratified dielectrics simulating typical phenomena of Quantum Mechanics, like resonant tunneling, and, finally, to study how the presence of the Goos-Hänchen phase and the symmetry breaking can influence the measurements made in Ellipsometry;2) to strengthen the recent scientific collaborations between the Theoretical Group of Prof. StefanoDe Leo (Imecc / UNICAMP) and the Experimental Groups of Prof. Maurizio Martino from the University of Salento (Lecce, Italy), of Profs. José A. Oliveira-Huguenin, Ladário da Silva, Silvânia Carvalho from UFFF of Volta Redonda and of Prof. Luis Araújo from Ifgw / UNICAMP;3) to allow the exchange of Brazilian and Italian students interested in the theoretical / experimental research in Optics and to continue the scientific collaboration between the University of Salento, UFF and UNICAMP and, if possible, to extend the scientific research by including new areas, where the presence of phenomena similar to the displacement of Goos-Hänchen and the symmetry breaking could allow to apply the results recently obtained in Optics, i.e. the propagation of electrons in a graphene structure (equation Dirac) and the propagation of seismic waves (Zoeppritz equations).
