Abstract

A first part is related to the end of the master's project of Rafael Vargas (Wedge Splitting Test - WST - at room temperature, #2017/05678-6), and its defense. A second part will deal with the definition of the PhD work of Rafael Vargas for which a joint Brazilian/French supervision (cotutelle) is aimed for. One key aspect of that work is related to high temperature WSTs on refractories when monitored by Digital Image Correlation (DIC) and stereocorrelation (SC). Feasibility analyses will be performed (up to 700 ºC) in France on materials processed in Brazil. Higher temperature experiments will be prepared in Brazil with the French expertise on conducting DIC and SC analyses at higher temperatures (up to 1200 ºC). The feasibility of in situ wedge splitting tests will be assessed in the French tomograph with the help of the Brazilian team. The expertise of the French team on DIC and developments of identification techniques will improve the ongoing Fapesp project (#2018/02801-4) that applies DIC to the identification of numerical constitutive models of ceramic materials made by powder pressing. The know-how of the Brazilian team on processing ceramics with different formulations and engineering its microstructure will then give interesting test cases for methodologies used in the French laboratory. It is worth noting that performing WSTs at higher temperatures is rare, and was never reported with DIC analyses, which may be considered as a scientific advance on both teams' research fields. (AU)
