Abstract

The aim of this Project is the study of the circulation and the market of printed matters, instruments and other scientific and technological instruments in Brazil, since the Second Empire (around 1840) up to the end of the First Republic (around 1930), taking the transnational perspective as a point of view, i.e., analyzing the market as an international network of merchants specialized in the scientific world. Firstly, it is intended to describe the agents of the printed matters and instruments which used to work in Brazil, in the period, besides, which type of objects and services they used to offer here. Simultaneously to the database construction, deeper studies of personages, printed matters and technologies which would emerge as important cultural mediators in this mercantile network will be analyzed.
