Is there a relationship between pelvic floor musculature function and balance in young women?


The pelvic floor is the set of fascia, ligaments, muscles and connective tissue that close the lower cavity of the pelvis. The pelvic floor musculature, one component of this complex system, is responsible for functions such as urinary and fecal continence, support of the pelvic organs and facilitation of sexual response. Recently, it has been pointed out as an important factor in the lumbopelvic stabilization, being considered in the treatment of dysfunctions of this segment. In addition, there is evidence that the main dysfunction of the pelvic floor, urinary incontinence, correlates with decreased body balance. Thus, it appears that some other factors may be related to the function of the pelvic floor musculature, such as body awareness and sexuality. Objective: To evaluate the relationship of the pelvic floor musculature function of women with the balance. Clause and Methods: In this observational study will be selected 200 women between 19 and 30 years for convenience, with an active sex life will be selected; they can not present conditions that impair pelvic floor evaluation, do not present comorbidities, or use medication that could interfere in body balance. The research will be developed at the Federal University of São Paulo. Data will be collected in a single day through three steps: clinical and urogynecological evaluation record, pelvic floor evaluation (perineal awareness, digital palpation and perineometry), and balance test. Data Analysis: To analyze the correlation between pelvic floor muscle strength and balance, the Spearman coefficient Á will be calculated , assuming a level of significance of 5%. (AU)
