Revealing transcriptome and proteome data for characterization of peptidomes and bioactive peptides in organisms from bycatch of shrimp trawling

Abstract

Marine organisms are considered an important source of bioactive compounds, among which we can highlight the class of peptides that play distinct biological functions in the prevention and treatment of various diseases, such as infectious, neurological, cardiovascular, metabolic and oncological. Even the face of the vast marine biodiversity, only a small part of organisms have been studied, and most remain with little molecular information necessary for the discovery of new molecules of therapeutic interest. In this project our objective is the bioprospecting of peptides through the generation of transcriptome and proteomic data of marine organisms of the Brazilian biodiversity, constituent of the bycatch of shrimp trawling fisheries. For this purpose, we will use New Generation Sequencing (NGS) and mass spectrometry for the characterization of transcriptomes, proteomes and peptidomes of these animals. Additionally, the peptides identified in fractions with bioactivity will be chemically synthesized and the cellular mechanisms involved and their therapeutic potential investigated. (AU)
