Abstract

Using applied research actions, this project aims to develop a strategy for the production of a natural pyroligneous extract (EP) - based antibiotic, in order to replace the use of commercial growth-promoting antibiotics in pig production. The formulations will be tested in the feeding of newly weaned piglets, which is one of the most critical stages in the growth and development of piglets, where antibiotics are commonly used to prevent intestinal dysfunction and thus ensure growth and health of these animals. The EP will be obtained through the smoke recovery from carbonization, where, in the carbonizations, only Eucalyptus urograndis logs will be used, with well defined carbonization routines in order to standardize the quality of the EP. Once collected, the PE will remain at rest for 30 days so that the denser fraction (tar) is decanted, facilitating the collection. The EP will be taken to the Ibiré facilities, where the formulation development will take place. The formulations will be produced from distilled and bidistilled EP, with and without vacuum application, totaling 4 different treatments. All formulations, as well as crude EP (which did not undergo the distillation process), will be analyzed in order to verify the influence of distillation and bidistillation on the product parameters, as well as the influence of vacuum application during both processes. Analyzes of pH, turbidity, gas chromatography with mass spectrometer, atomic absorption spectrometry with graphite furnace and determination tests of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) will be performed. The results will be compared with each other and the formulation that complies with international standards will be tested in the production of pigs in the nursery phase. Will be used 200 piglets in three phases: I - from 21 to 35 days; II - from 36 to 50 days; and III - from 51 to 63 days of age. Five isonutritive diets will be used, differing in the inclusion of growth promoting additives as follows: negative control diet without any growth promoting additive; positive control diet, with addition of commercial antibiotic (Halquinol); diet with 0.3% inclusion of Ibiré formulation (EP3); diet with 0.6% addition of Ibiré formulation (EP6); and diet with 0.9% addition of Ibiré formulation (EP9). Zootechnical performance, nutrient digestibility, incidence of diarrhea, complete blood count, markers of the immune system (pro and anti-inflammatory cytokines), intestinal morphology, relative weights of the digestive system organs and diversity of the cecum microbiota will be evaluated. With these experiments, it is expected to obtain a formulation within international standards that can be effective in replacing antibiotics in pig diet. (AU)
