Abstract

The Hospital das Clínicas of the School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo has assistance, teaching and research as pillars of its activities. In recent years, investment in information technology has been a strategic focus in order to contribute and expand the potential of data and information uses that support these initiatives, in an increasingly integrated way. Thus, the electronic health records (EHRs) plays a key role in this process.At healthcare, many nationals and internationals papers show the positive impact of implementation of an electronic health records (EHRs). It assists healthcare professionals, administrators and also the entire team involved in the primary healthcare. The main focus of EHRs implementation is the quality and patient safety improvement. Using data generated by the electronic health record is quick and easy to collect data for teaching, research and care. The availability of the electronic health record favors the researcher's production and clinical research and assistance activities, increasing the agility in gathering important information.In order to expand the EHR at Instituto Central of HCFMUSP is necessary to increase the number of computers, in this way to obtain a better access to the system during the medical care, to make the records and help during the decisions. Also, it is reiterated that all this can help do a better research. (AU)
