Abstract

Conservation of aquatic environments is essential for the survival of all species, including humans. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor, maintain and preserve the environmental health conditions. Anthropic actions are already present in all environments and are often associated with economic, productive and the subsistence needs with which we need to live and there is a need to act through mitigating measures that repair or even minimize environmental impacts. Among these impacts the high nitrogen and phosphorus levels resulted from the excessive use of agrochemicals, promote of exacerbated microalgae proliferation which, in turn, synthesize and secrete natural substances considered toxins. All these substances make the waters unfit for the consumption and survival of aquatic fauna. Therefore, researchers are looking for ways to effectively maintain aquatic health and consider numerous possibilities of nanotechnology application, by using metallic nanoparticles (NPMs), especially the ferric ones, as workable alternative to carry out the environmental remediation processes. The present proposal will perform the synthesis, characterization and functionalization of ferric NPMs with the objective to use them as pickup agents of glyphosate molecules and aquatic toxins as the microcystin-LR (Mic-LR) and the cylrospermopsin (CYN) and verify the effectiveness of functionalized NPMs to associate with the mentioned molecules. To investigate the action of these nanoparticles associated to toxic substances, fish considered models for toxicological analysis, the guppies (Poecilia reticulata) will be exposed for a long time (21 days) to NPMs associated with GLY, Mic-LR and CYN and, thereafter, multiples biomarkers (genotoxic, mutagenic, biochemical/fisiological and morphological) will be analyzed in the gills and liver. Groups of fish after exposure to such conditions will be left for a recovere for a period of 21 days and then, multiples biomarkers will be analyzed in the gills and liver to assess if in the complete absence of the tested agents the cellular and tissue behavior of these animals returned to the control levels.
