Strategies for improvement of implant coatings with bioactive molecules in compromised bone: a translational study

Abstract

The search for strategies that may improve the quality of bone formed around implants has involved techniques since the sophisticated design of the scrulls until the coating and treatment of their surface, in order to stimulate the activity of cells and the participation of signaling pathways that may activate responses that, in equilibrated manner, may produce bone with quality and quantity that will allow the support of the rehabilitation procedures. The aim of this proposal is to start and consolidate a collaboration between research laboratories from UNESP/Araçatuba and University of Illinois/Chicago that have the focus on the same question: how to improve the bone repair during osseointegration process, with different approaches: molecular and genetic aspects of bone repair/osseointegration and the evaluation of bone repair during osseointegration process using in vivo models. The mobility that is proposed in this sprint project will allow the familiarity of each researcher with the laboratory and the approaches of the partner and at the end, a new project will be proposed, with the collaboration of both laboratories, involving researchers and students, using in vivo models, characterizing compromised bone during repair process after implant's installation, evaluating the molecular aspects of signaling pathways involved in the cellular responses, specially when different coatings will be applied to the implant's surface.
