Abstract

The human skin has been an anti-aging strategy target because of its visibility by being an external part of the body. Aging is a multifactorial and very complex process, and occurs in cells and tissues gradually, generally showing the first cutaneous signs in the third decade of the age and progressing throughout an individual's life. In this context, to prevent facial aging, the application of 5 MHz ultrasound has been a common practice in aesthetic clinics, in order to activate the process of collagen synthesis and, consequently, promote the rejuvenation of aged skin. In order to get better results, it has also been a trend of associating the use of cosmetics with anti-aging treatment programs offered by aesthetic clinics. However, the real effectiveness in vivo and the mechanism of action of this practice is not fully elucidated. Therefore, the objective of this project is to develop and to evaluate the effectiveness of cosmetic formulations for skin with aging marks, having anti-aging actives associated to it or not, with a sound therapeutic aesthetic procedure. As the method of analysis of the parameters, non-invasive techniques of image analysis and cutaneous bioengineering will be used, as well as qualitative and quantitative techniques of sensory perception and clinical effectiveness. Thus, the expecting is to elucidate the effectiveness and mechanism of action of cosmetic formulations and ultrasound on the skin, in real conditions of use. (AU)
