Abstract

The focus of this proposal is the development of a new composite material for the manufacture of flexible films based on low-cost expanded graphite with conductive and heat transfer properties. The material to be developed in question must present several characteristics such as low cost, high electrical and thermal conductivity, flexibility, good mechanical resistance, ease of processing, and must be based on low toxicity polymers and solvents that will give it an eco-friendly character. The conductive films to be developed must be applied as heating devices for any region of the body, ensuring thermal comfort during daily activities, as sports or others, at low temperatures. In addition, it is planned to expand the material uses in another applications in the future, such as treat people with poor blood circulation, affected by circulatory problems, or even obtain electrodes, miniaturized heaters, sensors, absorbers or heat sinks, thermal interfaces, covering the area of health, cosmetics and medical devices due to its biocompatibility characteristic. Although similar products based on nanotubes and graphene nano sheets exist on the market, the great advantage of using graphite derivatives and expanded graphite is related to their abundance, ease of production and with viable prices in the national and global markets, which significantly reduce the cost of the final products.
