Abstract

Rydberg atoms are extremely sensitive to microwave electromagnetic fields. In this project, we propose to build a magneto-optical trap inside a microwave cavity where Rydberg atoms will be excited. This will allow us to investigate: i) the influence of the microwave cavity on the lifetime of Rydberg states; ii) accurately measure microwave fields through induced electromagnetic transparency spectroscopy (EIT); iii) the manipulation of interactions between Rydberg atoms. These experiments will allow a better understanding of the interaction of microwaves with Rydberg atoms. (AU)
