Abstract

The prevalence of depression has increased worldwide. Additionally, there are indications of the occurrence of many cases where, although there is no formal diagnosis of depression, mild depressive symptoms are present, suggesting that even an already high and growing prevalence may not reflect how much this condition (and / or their symptoms) interfere in the daily lives of people, especially women and individuals from disadvantaged classes, and who may, in the future, represent a high demand for assistance from public and / or private health services. The identification of psychosocial factors influencing the perceived panorama allows us to consider the hypothesis that measures, also of a psychosocial nature, may, in the same way that they seem to influence the increase, help to mitigate the presence and impact of mild depressive symptoms in individuals not formally diagnosed with this mood disorder. Experiences with encouraging self-care involving appearance have suggested that this can be a valuable path, given its low complexity and the potential for extremely low costs for health services. Self-esteem includes aspects in common with subjective well-being, such as satisfaction with life and emotional reactions (positive and negative affect). Therefore, its increase can positively interfere with well-being, which in turn is beneficial to health. Understanding that the use of cosmetics is able to improve self-image, the purpose of this work will be to evaluate, using standardized questionnaires, biochemical analyzes and neuroscience, the impact of the use of regular makeup on mild depressive symptoms, in order to generate objective indicators that can reinforce the evidence existing in the increase of self-esteem and, consequently, in the well-being and stimulate the deepening of studies on the theme (AU)
