Abstract

This project will examine the short- and long-term consequences of Covid-19 in line with the research priorities specified in the UN Research Roadmap. ENDURE deploys a holistic view to the study of the Covid-19 crisis, which we understand both as a new source for mobilization/de-mobilization of societies and political systems and also as ushering in a new era for change and transformation. Drawing on insights from a transatlantic team experienced in studying "inequalities", "gender", "resilience", "migration", "governance" and "radicalisation", this project is guided by five specific aims: * To analyse the governance of Covid-19 at local, national and global levels from a comparative/transatlantic perspective and explore the societal, political, and ethical consequences of these governance practices on social inequalities, on political systems, on people's rights and freedoms as well as in the context of the increasing divide between the Global North and South. * To identify how inequalities in their various dimensions (ethnicity, class, migratory status, gender and age) have been reinforced and challenged during and after the pandemic. * To study new forms of (de-)mobilization and community resilience practices, grassroots solidarity movements and the mobilization of social groups to claim their social and political rights. * To analyse the sources and mobilization of "fake news" in social and mainstream media and assess social media's empowering and repressive roles in the context of Covid-19. * To develop transatlantic platforms, co-produce practical tools and methodologies that form a systematic basis for post-pandemic recovery and aid in fostering a culture of resilience.
