Abstract

In an era of overflows and hybridisms in the audiovisual field, when the boundaries between formats, genres and languages are increasingly blurred and hard to be defined, this research project proposes a new approach to moving images, focusing on their relation to choreographic art, not only as distinct artistic languages - film and dance - that sometimes intersect, but as developments of the same art of movement, as advocated at the turn of the 20th century by some philosophers and artists. The constant motion or "deforming" of bodies - on stage as well as on screen - would not necessarily respond to a linear and rationally defined scenario, but rather to a choreographic appeal that would refer to ideas suggested and practiced by avant-garde filmmakers and artists of the 1920s, 30s and 40s. With the huge presence of video and dance in biennials, museums and art galleries around the world, it is urgent to think about the contemporary based on this convergence of forms of expression of movement, from two axes of approach: on the one hand, through an archeology of movement recordings (movement as reading/ representation, the presence of dance in film, and dance as film) and, on the other hand, through an archeology of movement notations (movement as writing/ coding, the presence of film in dance, and film as dance).
