Abstract

To meet the growing global demand for clean energy sources, significant efforts have been made to seek affordable and sustainable alternative sources of renewable energy with less environmental impact. In this context, perovskite solar cells (CSP) based on organic-inorganic hybrid compounds of lead halide such as CH3NH3PbI3, have become one of the most promising photovoltaic technologies, as they can be produced at low cost and with efficiencies greater than 25 %. However, the low stability of these devices is a barrier to their commercialization. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to understand the physical and chemical phenomena that govern the processes of PSC degradation of perovskites, and to seek solutions to increase the useful life of the devices. Among the difficulties to be overcome are the degradation of perovskites due to exposure to moisture, oxygen, and UV light, and the intrinsic problems caused by the chemical nature of the materials, which causes ionic movement and accumulation of charges at the interfaces of the materials triggering irreversible degradation processes. Measures of low-intensity optical absorption, photoluminescence, emission of photoelectrons at the internal interfaces, the energy of the species that form the films, and transmission electron microscopy, along with other more basic measurements and computer simulations, will be used in a coordinated manner to characterize the problems associated with cell degradation. Understanding the aforementioned phenomena and overcoming the resulting problems will allow us to obtain perovskite solar cells with greater stability, aiming at their use and commercialization.
