Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic affected more than 250 million people around the world. Although many facts have been learned about COVID-19, we do not know much about the alteration of the sympathetic / parasympathetic system and its influence on heart rate regulation produced by Sars-Cov-2. Several months after the COVID-19 pandemic onset, new signs of symptoms and syndromes, such as "Long COVID", are emerging. The latter exhibits patterns can be the result of autonomic instability due to lack of physical conditioning, hypovolemia, immune-mediated neuropathy, or residual consequence of the virus itself. Patients with Long COVID's syndrome constitute a large proportion of primary care consultations. Rapid detection and correct diagnosis are essential for recovery. This project aimed to detect postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POST) using measurements on the heart rate variability (HRV) in a longitudinal study of post-COVID-19 patients. Heart Rate (HR) will be collected via smart watch technology and HRV parameters will be calculated with on-line processing via the FLEEM System® platform. To validate this procedure, we will contrast our results with the Tilt test, the current gold standard, performed in healthy individuals and post-COVID-19 patients. Then it will be implemented in patients in their daily environment (house, work, recreational). This prospective study will provide the know-how to improve the current approach for early detection of Long COVID syndrome and develop better strategies for health promotion in the population affected by the pandemic.
