Abstract
Non-integrable Hamiltonian systems typically present chaotic orbits, due to the existence of homoclinic tangles. One of the consequences is the occurrence of fractal structures, like escape basins in open systems. There are several problems of interest in Plasma Physics which can be described by open non-integrable Hamiltonian systems, and which present fractal structures in escape basins. In this project we investigate the occurrence of fractal structures in two types of problems: (i) magnetic field line structure in Tokamaks with divertors; (ii) ExB drift motion of charged particles in magnetized plasmas. The characterization of the fractality of these structures is done with quantifiers like uncertainty dimension, basin entropy, and Wada property. We also consider the consequences of fractal structures in the chaotic transport of particles in plasmas confined in Tokamaks. (AU)
