Selective Oxidation of Hydrocarbons Catalyzed by Molecular Sieves Containing Redox Metals

Abstract

Molecular sieves, such as Mtw, Bea, Vfi and Mcm-41, will be prepared with redox metal incorporated in the structure. The synthesis will be done using transition metal salts, like Ti, V, Ccr, Mn, Fe and Co. The incorporation of these transition metals by the pos-synthesis modification will also be studied, as well as the incorporation by the solid state ionic exchange of rare earth cations, like Sm(iii), Ce(iii), Nb(iii), Yb(iii) and Ru(iii), within large diameter structures, such as Fau, Bea, Vfi and Mcm-41. The molecular sieves will be used in cyclohexane oxidation by hydrogen peroxide with a polar solvent or tert-butyl hydroperoxide, in pure cyclohexan. The activity and the stability against leaching of these molecular sieves will be studied. If loss of activity and/or leaching occurs, the synthesis method will be changed trying to improve the fixation of the redox metals within the molecular sieve lattices. Once activite and stable redox molecular sieves are obtained, they will be used in the oxidation of hydrocarbons with larger diameter, such as cyclododecane, decalin and others, and they will be tested for long term use in order to evaluate their possible use in an industrial process.
