Abstract

This project was elaborated by researchers from Group "Public School and Democracy" (Gepud), which has been studying and monitoring the implementation of education policies in the State of São Paulo public-school system since 2018. The purpose of the research is to contribute to the improvement of public education through a joint action between university researchers and managers of seven schools in the State public-school system for the reflective, critical, and creative implementation of the Brazilian National Common Core Standards, the Program "Inova Educação" and the Secondary Education Reform, in dialogue with the realities and needs of the schools. To what extent and how can schools critically appropriate the guidelines of the official curriculum policies, articulating them to their local political-pedagogical projects? To deal with this issue, we propose to carry out an action research with the aim of building and implementing curricular proposals supported by the autonomy of schools and the democratic participation of communities, considering their specificities, demands and knowledge. It is expected that the project will contribute in a concrete way to the improvement of public education in the State of São Paulo, materialized, for example, in better performances of students in external evaluations and in the reduction of school failure and dropout rates. In addition, the project intends to strengthen and consolidate spaces for continuing education in schools and, more generally, to produce systematic theoretical-practical knowledge on implementation of complex curricular policies from schools onwards.
