Abstract

The academic structure of the Institute of Advanced Studies (IEA) at the University of São Paulo is composed of research groups, study groups, chairs, visiting professors, senior professors, Brazilian and international lecturers, as well as laboratories, directed studies, forums, among others. Participation in the activities is open to researchers and professionals with projects approved by IEA's Board. Applicants can be affiliated to USP or not, and hold a university degree or not, as long as they prove to be well-known.The IEA traditionally holds meetings in its event rooms, gathering members of its academic structure, representatives of the USP community, and representatives of the research community, whether from USP or from other universities, whether Brazilians or foreigners. As a critical platform for interdisciplinary debate and exchange that seeks transdisciplinarity, the IEA opens its activities to virtual viewers in real time via webcast. The goal is for all events to be broadcast and made available for free access. Therefore, the equipment and infrastructure of the facilities need to be aligned with the reality of the Web 2.0, brought to equip the higher education and research community with new modes of interactive collaboration and distance learning to integrate the distribution of digital bibliographic collections with academic programs and to facilitate access to high-cost, specialized research facilities. It is about setting the standard for a new global communications infrastructure.The support requested here is for the improvement of IEA's infrastructure, which will be extremely valuable as it aims to serve researchers and other members of the scientific and cultural communities in addition to providing public service with the dissemination of more than 2,200 videos of academic content in the areas of natural, life, human, and social sciences.
