Botanical ingredients from native species planted in reforestation areas

Abstract

The botanical ingredients market is growing worldwide, driven by a global behavior that seeks less industrialized, healthy products from sustainable sources. Consumers see products of natural origin as a less aggressive alternative for both human and animal use, as well as for the environment. The most commonly used botanical ingredients are mainly sourced from traditional Chinese, Indian and European medicine. While in Brazil, native plants are little or almost unexplored commercially, but it is known that they have a very interesting economic potential. Thus, the objective of this proposal is to evaluate the potential of six species of native plants as a source for the production of botanical ingredients with commercial demand and/or as a source of biological activities focused on the cosmetic and food market, for the production of clean label and clean beauty additives. . The vegetable raw material will be obtained from the pruning of the leaves of trees grown in reforested areas that are used in the carbon credits and forestry market. The botanical ingredients will be produced by an efficient separation and purification process developed by Natcrom. The exploited botanical ingredients are considered specialty chemicals and have high value in the global market. (AU)
