Management of Resources from the Technical Reserve for Institutional Research Infrastructure from FAPESP to the Multiuser Laboratory of FAMERP

Abstract

Research projects are developed at the Faculty of Medicine of São José do Rio Preto (FAMERP) related to lines of research that are part of the Postgraduate Program of the Institution and that belong to several areas. Our research infrastructure is located mainly in Block U-6, built with financial assistance obtained from FINEP (Financier of Studies and Projects). In an area of 2,310 m² on the first floor, the Research Laboratories are installed and fully operational, including the Multi-User Laboratory (LMU). This Laboratory comprises the infrastructure and equipment intended for research activities and the production of knowledge and technologies that meet the needs of the Institution's scientific community. This Research Center is called Multiuser Laboratory, as it is open to the community of researchers who develop research in different areas of knowledge, such as Cellular and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Virology, Microbiology, Pathology, Clinical Area, among others. The equipment that the LMU has was granted by research promotion agencies to FAMERP professors, together with the Adjunct Directorate of Research, who at the time exercised the function of Coordinators of Multi-user Projects. Currently, the LMU of FAMERP brings together equipment of scientific relevance for the development of quality research in the country, such as a New Generation Sequencing Platform, equipment that performs HPLC and qRT PCR, in addition to a Luminometer (EMU FAPESP), a thermal cycler with temperature gradient, Flow Cytometer, Fluorescence Microscope, Microtome, Water Purification System, -80ºC Freezer, Vacuum Centrifuge, Fluorometer, among others. Thus, there is a need to continue investing in state-of-the-art methodologies at LMU, with the implementation of approaches that innovate the Institution's research, teaching and extension practices, allowing FAMERP to gain greater prominence in Research in the country. It is convenient to point out that the expansion in FAMERP's teaching, research and extension activities are only possible by obtaining funding granted for the acquisition of laboratory equipment and adequacy of its infrastructure. Recently, the need to acquire an accessory for medium-sized equipment was identified, which can benefit the quality of the work developed at LMU, in addition to assisting in projects being developed by various research groups at the Institution. In this way, FAMERP chose to apply the amount referring to FAPESP's Institutional Technical Reserve for 2021 (base year 2020), according to the verification of the LMU's needs, to obtain an accessory aimed at medium-sized equipment, in addition to of Consumable Material and Third Party Services, with the aim of maintaining the proper functioning of this Facility. Thus, the proposal entitled "Management of Resources from the Technical Reserve for Institutional Research Infrastructure of FAPESP to the Multiuser Laboratory of FAMERP" aims to continue making the LMU more accessible to the entire scientific community of the Institution, as well as the Hospital de Base and other Research Centers, making FAMERP become a reference in Research, with articulation of strategies in Research and Graduate Studies, resulting in greater academic interaction and extension of services to the community.
