The neural correlates of short-term memory contribution to reading acquisition: evidence from a longitudinal study with reading intervention

Abstract

This proposal aims at the Brazilian education, specifically at the beginning of the reading instruction. Its objective is to fill gaps related to the role of the verbal short term memory in the development of reading skills the includes neurofunctional restructuring along the childhood. The proposal was structured based on three objectives: 1) Assessment of the course of verbal memory development through neuropsychological evaluation; 2) Assessment of brain activation related to the execution of verbal memory tasks in different time points during development in early education; 3) Evaluation of the effect of a Kalulu computerized intervention program on the verbal memory and neurofunctional pattern.
