Abstract

Studies have shown that a high sense of coherence (SOC) and social support are related to better health outcomes. Considering that adolescents trust friends and teachers and that there are few publications that have evaluated the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health and quality of life in adolescents in the school environment. Knowledge about the profile and health of adolescents generates data based on scientific evidence for the creation of health promotion strategies, improving the health and quality of life of schoolchildren. This research will aim to implement and evaluate the effect of a health promotion program focused on the development of SOC and social support on the quality of life of adolescents after the COVID-19 pandemic. This study will be carried out in schools in the west and north zones of Bauru, São Paulo, Brazil and will involve adolescents. A school health promotion strategy will be implemented with weekly activities to improve students' sense of coherence and social support. Adolescents will respond to the Kiddo-KINDL, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale - RSES, Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) SOC-13, Social Support Appraisals (SSA), Child Perception Questionnaire (CPQ 11-14) and questions about the effects of the pandemic, in addition to socioeconomic issues, eating habits and school performance. The clinical conditions evaluated will be gingival bleeding and the presence of bacterial plaque. Questionnaires and clinical examinations will be performed before the implementation of the strategy (baseline), six and twelve months after the intervention. The implementation of health promotion strategies based on the increase in SOC in vulnerable adolescents exposed to the COVID-19 pandemic can help improve the quality of life and health of these individuals. Therefore, it is expected that the results of this research reinforce the importance of health promotion strategies for schoolchildren. (AU)
