Abstract

The research seeks to assess how national crises have affected the evolution of regional disparities in the country since 1947, when data are available at the state level. In addition, a recent period from 2002 on will be analyzed to see how three major crises affected the disparities: the Great Recession of 2008/9 - international crisis; the crisis of the second Dilma Rousseff administration, 2004-2017; and the COVID-19 crisis from 2020 on. In addition to this topic, an analysis of the synchronization of regional economic cycles over the seven decades will be made, and how this synchronization, indicative of the integration of economies, varied over time, in possible association with national cyclical movements.
