Comparative analysis of the clinical application of minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) or minimally invasive nail osteosynthesis (MINO) in dogs

Abstract

MIPO and MINO are minimally invasive biological osteosynthesis methods that aim to reestablish bone alignment and promote relative stability, sufficient for bone consolidation, preserving the focus of the fracture, using, respectively, bone plate and locked intramedullary nail. Aiming to clinically compare these two types of osteosynthesis, 20 dogs with complete and closed fracture of the tibia will be matched by weight, age and type of fracture and randomly divided into 2 treatment groups: MIPO group (n=10) and MINO group (n=10). Patients will be monitored radiographically in the preoperative, immediate postoperative period and after 15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 days, or until clinical union. Clinical results, bone alignment through the mechanical joint angles of the tibia, fragments apposition, characteristics of bone fixation apparatus and time of clinical union will be evaluated through the modified radiographic union scale for tibia fractures (mRUST) will be evaluated. All analyses will be performed in Software R through the package "lme4" (R Core Team, 2020), considering statistically significant P<0.05. (AU)
