Industrial Mathematics: applications and challenges on the electrical sector

Abstract

Since its creation in 2013, the Centro de Ciências Matemáticas Aplicadas à Indústria (CEPID/CeMEAI) has promoted the approximation of the academic sector to industry. Innovative activities led by the center, such as the "Workshop de Soluções Matemáticas para Problemas Industriais", successfully foster interdisciplinary collaboration in strategic areas for the country's technological development. Among them, a continued partnership with the Centro de Pesquisas de Energia Elétrica (CEPEL) and the Câmara de Comercialização de Energia Elétrica (CCEE) stands out to address challenging mathematical problems in the Brazilian electric sector. In this context, this visiting professor's research activity plan aims to deepen the understanding of the energy price formation process, whose current computational modeling presents a loss of representation of certain opportunity costs. To expand and strengthen the base of mathematical talents with skills for interdisciplinary applications, the visiting professor will complement the research with training activities, through two capacity-building mini-courses for young researchers in industrial mathematics.
