Solar chromosphere diagnostics in the infrared

Abstract

After the well succeeded pre-integration tests carried on at CRAAM facilities in São Paulo, and its installation at OAFA observatory, scheduled for January 2023, the High Altitude THz Solar photometer will start the commissioning phase. This proposal aims to provide financial support for the commissioning activities. HATS will join the other instruments currently operated by CRAAM, introducing a new window in the wide spectral range that goes from the sub-THz (1.4 mm) to the mid-infrared (10 ¼m) allowing unprecedented diagnoses of the chromospheric dynamics in their calm, quiescent, and active behaviors. Moreover, funding will also be allocated to work out the techinal details of a future project of a complete renovation and upgrade of the Solar Submillimeter Telescope (SST), the only one in the world to observe daily the Sun in the sub-THz band.
