Strengthening Multi-User Scientific Research Infrastructure in Animal Experimentation

Abstract

The Botucatu Faculty of Medicine has continually invested to expand its scientific research capacity at the frontier of knowledge. Tangible examples of this institutional commitment include the implementation and operation of the Experimental Research Unit (UNIPEX) and the Animal Experimentation Research Unit (UPEA). Both are facilities equipped with shared resources dedicated to advancing scientific research in healthcare. The UNIPEX and UPEA research units are located in an area of just over 14 thousand square meters, on the Botucatu campus. Both serve students and researchers from FMB and other local units, such as the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science, Institute of Biosciences and Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and other Unesp campuses. With the constant increase in the number and complexity of ongoing research projects, there is a growing demand for laboratory and vivarium infrastructure that meets the needs of students and researchers. The main objective of this proposal is to strengthen the existing infrastructure to meet the needs of scientific research in animal experimentation. To achieve this goal, we plan to acquire permanent multi-user materials that provide a sustainable, more comprehensive and effective research environment while maintaining quality, health and animal welfare. The projectapplication of resources was prepared in conjunction with the UNIPEX-UPEA technical-scientific team, including members of the Unit's coordination and management council, as well as representatives of researchers and technical-administrative employees. The decision to invest in this action was approved by the FMB Congregation (AU)
