Abstract

In this project, new aqueous dispersions of polyurethanes (PU) based on vegetable oil will be developed, associated with metallic micro and nanoparticles for applications such as coatings for medical devices or coatings for hospital areas. The metallic particles to be tested will be micronized powders of copper or Cu-Zn alloy, copper nanoparticles (Cu-NPs) and Cu-Zn alloy (Cu-Zn-NPs). The methodology comprises the stages of synthesis of a polyurethane; synthesis or purchase of micro and nanoparticles of copper or copper alloys; preparation and physical-chemical characterization of a coating with antimicrobial properties; evaluation of the antimicrobial properties of the obtained prototype coating. The relevance of the proposal involves the process of obtaining anti-infectious polyurethane films, through less aggressive production methods using raw materials from renewable resources produced in Brazil. As expected results, we aim that this type of antimicrobial coating will be able to reduce the rate of nosocomial infection, positively impact the environment and reduce manufacturing costs in the market. The development of this work will be directly linked to the optimization of production processes and the development of new materials at Terra Azul Tecnologia de Polímeros Naturais Ltda. This company operates in the area of resin production for application in several industrial sectors. (AU)
