Abstract

Cross-hormone therapy (THC) has been used by transgender people for the modification of sexual characteristics. Trans-men have been using androgenic steroids (EA) while trans-women have been using estrogen, associated or not with progestogen. Recently, in our laboratory, we evaluated male and female Wistar rats submitted to THC mimicking the conditions of trans men and women. We observed significant renal morphological alterations; however the effects on glomerular and tubular function of rats under these conditions need to be expanded, in order to establish the effects of THC on renal hemodynamics and tubular function in this experimental model. The incidence of chronic kidney disease in the world is increasing, therefore the investigation into the impact of THC in the predisposition to the development of renal alterations and development of arterial hypertension becomes relevant. Thus, the objectives of this work are: 1) to evaluate the effects of chronically administered THC in rats (male and female) on blood pressure (BP), and functional parameters of the kidneys (glomerular filtration rate, renal plasma flow, acid excretion, etc.) and on renal morphological aspects (glomerular area, renal cross-sectional area, expression of markers of renal injury and expression of tubular sodium transporters).
