Abstract

Bioglass and polymer composites are materials of great interest to medical and dental areas due to their properties, which combine the bioactivity of these ceramic materials with the flexibility of polymers. Previous works reported the obtaining of hybrid foams containing 80% bioactive glass/20% polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) for application in tissue engineering through sol-gel processing. In this work we aim the synthesis and physical and biological characterization of a bioglass composite obtained by sol-gel route with mass composition 58%SiO2-42%CaO, together with a CMC gel to obtain an easy-to-handle material with physical-chemical and biological characteristics necessary to be used as a bone graft in medicine and dentistry.
