Abstract

In QuVort2D we propose to study the vortex and vortex-dipole dynamics in two complementary experimental platforms working with two-dimensional (2D) bosonic (IFSC-team) and fermionic (INO-CNR team) atomic superfluids trapped in box-like optical potentials. Vortices will be produced via hydrodynamic instability or on-demand with sophisticated vortex imprinting methods. The limits of few-vortices, where vortices can be tracked individually, and many-vortices, whose complex vortex dynamics may lead to the onset of quantum turbulence, will be explored in both systems. The behavior of such vortices under disorder or controlled perturbations of the 2D atomic gases will provide further insight on its superfluid properties. The comparison of our results with theoretical models will allow us to connect them to more complex systems related to condensed matter, such as high-Tc superconductors. (AU)
