Effects of pre-resistance training testosterone propionate sensitization on signal pathways for protein synthesis and morphology of triceps surae and plantaris muscles of Wistar rats

Abstract

Introduction: Musculoskeletal tissue has the ability to adjust to different stimuli, such as resistance training or drug administration, for example, the anabolic androgenic steroids, both of which are capable of triggering a series of biochemical events that promote various structural and functional alterations. The association of these stimuli enhances these changes, however, it is noteworthy that the use of anabolic androgenic steroids in the long term is harmful to health, such as the testicles. However, recent studies show that short-term sensitization of this drug was enough to generate adjustments similar to prolonged use. Therefore, it is necessary to elucidate the intracellular actions, such as signaling pathways for protein synthesis induced by training and testosterone sensitization that may explain this phenomenon. Aim: To analyze the protein content and morphology of musculoskeletal tissue under the effect of testosterone sensitization associated with resistance training and to identify possible effects on the testicles. Methods: The experimental groups will be composed of male Wistar rats, aged 120 days, divided into groups: control, training and testosterone. After a period of testosterone sensitization, the animals will be submitted to 12 weeks of ladder-based resistance training. The plantar and triceps surae muscles, testicles and blood will be collected. After its removal, morphological, protein and hormonal analyses will be made. The generated data will be treated using parametric statistics accepting p d 0.05.Keywords: Musculoskeletal tissue, testicles, testosterone, resistance training. (AU)
