TRANSFORMATIVE PRACTICES FOR FISHING COMMUNITIES: TACKLING SOCIOENVIRONMENTAL CONFLICTS THROUGH TRANSDISCIPLINARITY AND CO-PRODUCTION

Abstract

This project seeks a collaboration between the Institute of Marine Sciences, Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), and the Knowledge, Technology, and Innovation (KTI) group from Wageningen University. UNIFESP's expertise with traditional Brazilian fishing communities, through projects like Maretórios Amazônicos and PactoMar, aims to scale local knowledge to global dimensions using transdisciplinary and participatory methods. Concurrently, KTI's interdisciplinary research, notably the Global Epistemologies and Ontologies (GEOS) project, addresses global challenges by interweaving social sciences with technical and natural perspectives. Together, the teams will investigate co-production, community involvement, and stakeholder engagement in transdisciplinary projects, focusing on fishing communities. Leveraging varied global case studies, this collaboration aspires to formulate transformative practices for sustainable fishing community endeavors. (AU)
