Abstract

To carry out an overview of systematic reviews that studied the effects of metformin versus placebo or no intervention used by pregnant women with the pre-conception diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) throughout the pregnancy to reduce the incidence of miscarriage and gestational diabetes.Methods: We will carry out an overview of systematic reviews. We will search in Embase; PubMed; Virtual Health Library (LILACS); Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials; Trip Database; Scopus; Web of Science; and CINAHL. Language, publication status, and year-indexed or published filters will not be applied. Two reviewers will independently complete screening and select the papers, quality assessment, risk of bias evaluation, and data collection. We will combine the included reviews in a narrative summary. We will prepare a narrative summary with the included SRs. The included studies' quality and risk of bias using AMSTAR2 and ROBIS, respectively.Conclusion: This overview will evaluate recent data from systematic reviews of using metformin for pre-pregnancy diagnosis of PCOS to reduce adverse outcomes. It can help identify possible knowledge gaps and help health policymakers make decisions about using metformin for this group of pregnant women. (AU)
