Abstract

The knowledge of diversity and genetic structure, the objective of this proposal, is fundamental for directing breeding programs. Operations such as thinning and selection of parent plants for the advancement of breeding generations can restrict the genetic base of populations if proper care is not taken. The aim of this study is to assess the diversity and genetic structure of the base populations of C. henryi and C. variegata, introduced from different provenances. The analysis will employ SNP markers to estimate genetic diversity parameters and population genetic structure using two complementary methodologies: one based on Bayesian statistics in the Structure program and another based on principal component analysis of the total variability captured by the markers. Additionally, the effective pollination distance will be studied by analyzing the "paternity" of seedlings obtained from parent plants within the studied populations. (AU)
