Abstract

The proposed visit of Prof. Christina Hazard, a renowned expert in microbial ecology, to the University of São Paulo (USP) aims to enhance the ongoing FAPESP-funded projects, including the Center for Carbon Research in Tropical Agriculture (CCARBON) and the Mechanisms of Nitrous Oxide Emission in Tropical Soil (MONS). Prof. Hazard's extensive research experience, particularly in soil microbial communities and their roles in ecosystem functions, will be invaluable in advancing these projects. The visit will focus on understanding the ecophysiological traits of soil microrganisms and their contribution to greenhouse gas emissions in tropical soils. Key activities include hands-on training in advanced molecular techniques such as DNA-SIP, participation in academic seminars and workshops, and advisory roles for students and researchers. This collaborative effort is expected to foster new research initiatives, deepen understanding of microbial processes in tropical agriculture, and contribute to sustainable agricultural practices.
