Analysis of nucleation-growth processes of crystals in supercooled glass-forming liquids and glasses

Abstract

This project is focused on a detailed analysis of the nucleation and growth of crystalline phases in glass or a supercooled glass-forming liquid. The parameters of the relaxation and crystallization processes - the distribution function of nuclei, R(t)- and N(t)-curves - will be simulated and compared with experimental data for crystallization of a barium disilicate glass (BaO·2SiO2) at a wide temperature range, T=933...1063K, which are currently being performed at the Vitreous Materials Lab - Dept. Materials Engineering, Federal University of São Carlos. (AU)
