In order to obtain more information about the crystallization processes in vitreous samples, we requested to FAPESP, by means of the associated project CEPID (CeRTEV Proc. 2013 / 07793-6), the acquisition of the equipment: "X-ray spectrometer fluorescent model ZSX MODEL ZSX PRIMUS II ". The acquisition of the wavelength dispersive x-ray fluorescence spectrometer equipment (WDXRF) has, as its main objective, the compositional analysis of vitreous and glass ceramics samples produced by CeRTEV (CEPID / FAPESP Proc. 2013 / 07793-6). Analysis of the stoichiometry of the samples produced has been a limiting factor for the understanding of the preparation and characterization processes. The large volume of samples, the slow speed of the analysis (when possible to be done) and the destructive nature of the analysis when made by chemical routes, led us to look for alternatives to solve this demand. Furthermore, in studies of bioactive glasses, the analysis of the dissolution of the composition of materials in aqueous medium is necessary, which requires the analysis of the liquid phase, indeed impossible to be performed in traditional X-rays fluorescence equipment. The equipment presented in this request meets these needs and can measure stoichiometry for elements from Boron, besides enabling compositional mapping of the sample. Finally, the association of non-destructive analysis will allow us to obtain a chemical/structural mapping of the sample, allowing a better understanding of the evolution of crystallization from glass ceramics and glasses preparation processes. There is no such equipment in the universities of São Carlos and nearby region (Araraquara and Ribeirao Preto). Thus, in addition to solve a large demand for the CeRTEV (Cepid-FAPESP), this equipment may also solve a demand in the nearby region and may even broad the scientific collaborations network for the CEPID.
