Abstract

Solid impurities for raw sugar manufacturing processes need to be characterized. Impurities are from soil particles and green and dry/brown sugarcane leaves. The presence of solid impurities interferes in the juice quality, increasing the use of chemicals to establish process control, as example the clarification. A manual stalk separation is impractical on an industrial scale. In the final product, case of the sugar can be intentionally spiked by sand, as example to illicit proposes. The impact of impurities is in the quality of the manufactured products and in the environment. Then, this proposal intends to apply several analytical strategies to detect impurities, as well, the development of models for the sugar or ethanol mills to avoid losses, increase the raw material extraction leading high quality to sugar and ethanol products.
