Selective and late-stage functionalization of C-H bonds of complex molecules

Abstract

This Research Project proposes to investigate methodologies to selectively oxidize C-H bonds, using complex natural products as platforms to obtain compounds with higher oxidation state. Due to the ubiquity of these bonds in organic molecules, different procedures have been developed and enhanced in order to selectively oxidize synthetically interesting positions to obtain new compounds with different physical and chemical properties. In this context, we intend to use emerging methodologies to synthetize natural di- and triterpenoids, targeting strategically important positions to obtain derivatives with higher oxidation state.Furthermore, we aim to develop iron and manganese-based catalysts for use in C-H bond oxidation reactions in an enantioselective manner. Finally, we intend to study the selectivity of C-H bond oxidations in palladium-catalyzed and oxime-directed reactions and the development of a method capable of oxidizing C-H bonds without oxidizing diols present in the same molecule.
