Abstract

Atmospheric aerosols can have several health implications. Currently, the need for data beyond concentration to assess the effective risk that pollutants can cause to health is reverberating throughout the scientific community. One of the lines used in research is the study of oxidative stress as a driver of the body's inflammatory responses after exposure to particulate matter. The isolated determination of the oxidative potential is not sufficient to attest to the effective risk that emissions of particulate matter can cause to health. It is evident that parameters such as composition, emission sources and meteorological events that act within the sampling territory need to be linked to potential tests for interpreting the pathogenicity of atmospheric particulate matter. This is composed of a variety of species that are directly associated with the generation of reactive oxygen species in the body. The objective of this research is to characterize samples of fine particulate matter collected in the city of São Paulo during and after the pandemic, determining their composition, concentration and contribution to emission sources. Of equal importance, the oxidative potential of the samples and the impact on health will be determined. (AU)
