Abstract

This research focuses on the areas of Education Sciences and School Psychology, with a particular focus on Basic Education, and is part of the activities to be developed at the Science Centre for the Development of Basic Education: Learning and School Coexistence in Basic Education - CCD -Educação Básica. The proposal brings together a significant group of researchers in dialogue, made up of 20 research centres from universities in five regions of Brazil and abroad, from the following countries: Angola, Argentina, Cuba, France, Mexico and Portugal; two Non-Governmental Organisations and will carry out the activities in partnership with the São Paulo State Department of Education.Its general aim is to investigate the main challenges facing learning and coexistence at school, based on scientific evidence and innovative practices from the sciences of education, school and educational psychology and the sociology of violence, in order to develop interdisciplinary, intersectoral, intercultural and intersectional actions in the implementation of public policies, with a view to improving the quality of basic education. It will work with a comparative methodology and will use qualitative and quantitative data, through the application of validated instruments such as the School Climate, the development of specific instruments to assess learning conditions and school coexistence and the use of participatory methodologies, with the aim of understanding the difficulties of schooling on the part of its actors: managers, teachers, students, parents or guardians and the community.It is composed of three studies and their respective sub-projects: STUDY 1. What the Sciences of Education and School and Educational Psychology say about learning difficulties and school coexistence: national and international studies whose theoretical bases underpin innovative educational practices and contribute to the development of educational policies aimed at improving learning and school coexistence for human development. STUDY 2: Survey of data and information on learning difficulties, school climate and coexistence in the São Paulo state network, including extreme violence, in networks of Brazilian states and countries participating in the research and their repercussions on schooling. STUDY 3. Multidisciplinary, intercultural, intersectoral and intersectional actions to tackle difficulties in the learning process and school coexistence, focusing on teacher training and public policy proposals to improve the quality of basic education and the constitution of actions for a Culture of Peace and the development of Human Rights Education.The research will take place within the framework of the Centre of Science for Development and will have as its central product the constitution of the "Alain Goussot" International Observatory for Childhood and Adolescence Education, which aims to become a national and international reference for the subject.
